Would You Use a Course Workload Calculator?
Reading Time: 2 minutes
This is the second time I come across something like this. A course workload calculator. This one from Rice University (I have a soft spot for them because I taught there in 2008).
On the one hand, I feel like it can be useful for people who teach courses at the same level to compare their workloads to each other or what is expected.

You know after I wrote that post, someone showed me some interesting studies by Carnegie Foundation for Advancement of Teaching on the validity (or lack thereof) of credit hours/time as a measure of engagement with learning. She also shared a blogpost of hers reflecting on this and what it means for online learning especially. It’s a good post: https://www.leighgraveswolf.com/2019/08/04/a-critical-digital-pedagogy-musing-going-beyond-1159pm/
